Over spring break, I took a road trip with a large group of friends to Las Vegas. I spent so much time trying to organize the logistics of the trip that I didn’t stop to think that the main forms of recreation in Las Vegas would be drinking and gambling, both of which I have complicated feelings about. The trip confronted me with both of these issues. As I only started drinking once I turned 21 last year, I don’t have too much experience with alcohol and I had never before been gambling. Sometimes I would notice that I didn’t have the same carefree attitude that my friends had, but at the same time I didn’t feel I could express what I was feeling without ruining everyone else’s good time. I would like to go back and reexamine the events as a way of approaching how my family and how I see alcohol and gambling.
